Independant review by Best Golf Gadgets

The Simplest, Easiest and Most Legal Way To Improve Your Golf Game Without Taking Lessons or Changing Your Golf Swing

by Mike Clayton - PGA Professional, Course Designer and Australian golf authority.

Listen up. If you're serious about playing better golf then you must consider getting a laser rangefinder. Here's why.

They are an essential tool if you want to get accurate distances to your target on every shot you play. This is important for one key reason,

You can make a confident swing time after time. And this is important because you'll start to see improvement and in time you'll play for more consistently. It's not rocket science, but an essential part of playing better golf.

Why do you think every pro uses a caddy? It's not just to carry the heavy bag. The main reason is to feed vital information to the player,

- carry distances of hazards and other obstacles

- run out distances to the rough and water

- the distance to the flag

A golf pro never ever hits a shot without knowing these distances. Never. If you asked a pro to play without getting distances they'd be hopeless - most couldn't break 80!

But most amateurs I see don't go to the trouble of finding out the correct distances. Sure, not everyone can use a caddy - but a rangefinder is the next best thing (and far cheaper by the way).

With a rangefinder you can discover how far you've got to hit the ball, choose the necessary club and then make a confident swing. It's for this reason why I think a rangefinder is the perfect tool of choice and the reason I have one strapped to my bag when I don't have my caddy.

There has been a lot of debate about whether a GPS is better than a laser rangefinder. I don't what to get into all the nitty gritty here, but let me say that unless you can get the exact distance to the pin (or target) then it's a waste of time. With a laser you get the vital information in seconds. There's no fluff or B.S.

Here's a few more reasons why you should consider a rangefinder,

1. They help speed up play. There's no more wandering around looking for sprinklers or pacing back and forth from the 150 metre mark. You can get your distance in seconds and be playing moments after. For this reason alone every golfer should be using one. Is it just me or is golf getting slower?

2. They improve your game. When you start finding out exactly how far you hit the ball (without guessing) your game will improve. I promise this will happen and another reason why we offer a 60 day Game Improvement Guarantee

3. Better value for money than a GPS (or caddy). Battery life is better, they give exact distances to your target, no subscriptions, work on all courses each time, easier and faster to use. Don't drink as much as a caddy and certainly cheaper. More reliable too.

A really cool rangefinder

Pargate are a Swedish designed and engineered rangefinder. While the Swedes are famous for Volvo's and IKEA, they could become famous in the golf world for this device.

The Pargate is top notch. I've seen (and used) all brands of rangefinders, but nothing comes as close to performance and affordability as the Pargate range.

Here's a rundown.

- The laser technology is the best going round. It will work up to 1200 metres (950 m for the 1500CX unit) and gives an accurate reading of plus or minus 1 metre from 270 metres.

- 7 x zoom that makes finding your target easy. Also good for spotting the slow players in the group in front.

- They have Smart Scan and Target Seek technology. Basically, the unit zeroes in on the flag giving you an instant (and accurate) reading. In the past some rangefinders made it difficult to get a reading. Wind or shaky hands made it tough - but with Smart Scan and Target Seek all the work is done for you.

- Point and press technology. Seriously, these units are simple to use. If most golf pros can use them you'll be fine.

- Ergonomically designed - they look good and feel great in your hand. A special non slip rubber ensures it won't get away from you. They are a nice size - not too big or small. They fit perfectly in your hand and are so simple to use (some models require two hands to use - but the Pargate's can be used with one hand)

- 100% legal. Not all rangefinders are legal. Some fancy pants models tell you wind speed, elevation and your wedding anniversary but alas, they are not legal. So choose wisely. All Pargate model are 100% legal for play and competition.

- Crystal clear optics - get a clear reading in all weather conditions. Almost everybody raves about how clear the display is on these devices.

- As used by golf pros all around the globe. My good mates Johan Rystrom and Bill Longmuir use and recommend them as do a growing number of golf professionals

So is a rangefinder for you?

You might be wondering if a rangefinder is going to be suited to your game. Here's my take,

If you're a weekend warrior and like gadgets then this will definitely make golf more fun. It's great for measuring your drive (just stand next to your ball and get a measurement back to the tee), learning about the course and improving your game.

If you're a regular golfer who plays monthly then this device is going to be help you. There's nothing like getting consistent distances to give you the confidence to swing freely. It really does help. I'm willing to bet you'll drop a shot or two from your handicap right away.

If you're a handicap golfer who plays weekly then it's a must have device. I really shouldn't have to tell you how important managing yourself around the course is - a laser does all the hard work for you. It makes it easier to plan your shot and get the right club in your hand.

If you're a serious golfer and don't have a rangefinder then you're wasting my time and missing out on realising your full potential. Time to get with the programme and jump on the bandwagon. A rangefinder should be an essential tool in your kit.

If you're buying a gift for a golfer then you can't go wrong. All golfers love these devices and I can almost guarantee this will be the best present your golf loving friend/relative will get this year.

Risk free purchase

I stand by the Pargate Rangefinder and is the reason I endorse them. We're so confident that you'll be impressed by the performance and that you'll improve your golf there's a"Kick Arse" 60 day game improvement guarantee. This means that you can use it for 60 days and if you don't think it has helped your game or it isn't the best golf device you've used then we'll refund your money in full. There's no questions or hassle. Simply return the product "as new" and you'll be given a full refund for 60 days. We're here to please and are serious about offering the best service possible.

There's also a 365-day"Cool Swede"manufactures warranty. If there's a defect or issue in the first year then we'll replace the unit at no charge. We don't cover misuse - so don't throw it against your golf bag and expect a refund :)

If there's ever a problem with your rangefinder we will express post you a new device at our expense. We will also pay for any returns that need to come back to us. We're absolutely serious about these devices and want to make your decision as easy as possible. While the Pargate brand are an awesome tool and manufactured to the highest standards, we don't think you should have to pay for any shipping or return costs. We can't be any fairer than that.

Some other stuff

Pricing includes GST and shipping inside Australia. We express post all items, this ensures a quick delivery - usually 2-3 days anywhere inside Australia. If you're outside of Australia then please contact us - in most cases shipping is about $20 extra (USA, NZ and Asia)

Batteries: the unit takes a standard CR2 battery. They are a powerful battery and can be found at most camera stores. Unfortunately Australian shipping regulations prohibit us from sending batteries with unit. We are working on this and slowly getting through the red tape. Please don't hold your breath. By the way, under normal circumstances a CR2 will give you around 5000 readings. This is about two years of use before you'll need to change batteries. You can also get rechargeable CR2's, but alas, they don't give you as many readings before charging is required.

Accessories - You also get a ripper little carry case, strap and lens cleaner with your purchase. Besides your clubs, it's all you need to play your best golf.

Water resistant - the device is water resistant. This means you can use it in the rain without an issue. It does not mean you can dive into the pool and measure it's length

User Guide - it's all pretty simple (there's only two buttons) but each unit comes with a handy user guide. The guide gives useful information like how to change from yards to metres and how to replace batteries.

Shipping - We use Express Post to guarantee the fastest and safest shipping. I recommend you use a business address as this ensures the quickest delivery time. We can't guarantee an exact time of delivery and a note may be left if there is nobody to collect parcel. (note: delivery times may vary due weekends, public holidays and destinations)
